CCC Distributing Anti-abortion Pamphlets

By Ülvi Gitaliyev

The Campus Christian Center claims to cultivate an atmosphere of “radical hospitality” in Berea College. Yet, the Interfaith Prayer Books, which are given out for free in the Draper Building by the CCC, contain anti-abortion pamphlets printed by Spiritual Adaption Inc, a Christian hate group in Michigan. The front of the pamphlet shows a photo of a weeping Jesus holding a fetus with the caption “This must stop!”, while on the other side, it refers to abortion as “murder” and ends by encouraging readers to spiritually “adopt” a fetus and pray for it every day for nine months.

The full text of the pamphlet can be found below:

“Please spiritually adopt an unborn baby. Every day over 4,000 babies are killed by abortion. They have so little protection only the hand of God can end this massacre. Prayer is the best weapon to help them – the most effective. Say this prayer every day for nine months to save a baby’s life!

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion. Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.”

Such a pamphlet goes against the mission of the CCC and the great commitments of Berea College. The Berea Torch, on behalf of the larger campus community, demands an official explanation as to why such a hateful and offensive message was allowed to spread by the CCC and whether or not the Center supports the views espoused by the pamphlet.

  1. Did anyone ever bother to check with the CCC to see if they were the ones distributing this material? Just because it is in their pamphlets doesn’t mean they were the ones responsible for slipping those in there. If you have evidence they did it, you have the right to claim they were responsible. Blaming them without verification is a quick way to dash your journalistic integrity. Also MI is short for Michigan, not Minnesota.
